Ayurveda or the 'Science of Life' is an ancient, holistic system for diagnosis and treatment, perhaps the oldest system of medicine known to humanity.Ayurveda consider its origin over 5,000 years ago in India, 'Ayurveda' the ancient wisdom of this healing system was a part of the spiritual tradition of the Sanatana Dharma (Universal Religion) or vedic dharma of india.

There were four main books of spiritual tradition of india, which included among other topics, health, astrology, spiritual business, government, army, poetry and spiritual living and behavior.

The four ancient books of Indian knowledge, wisdom and culture are known as the four Vedas:

• Rigveda
• Samaveda
• Yajurveda
• Atharvaveda

Ayurveda traces its origins to the Atharvaveda in particular, and is connected to Hindu religion of india, Atharvaveda contains 114 hymns or formulations for ayurvedic treatment of diseases. Ayurveda originated in and developed from these hymns. In this sense, ayurveda is considered by some to have divine origin. Indian Ayurveda has a long history, and is one of the oldest organised systems of medicine.

A classic ayurvedic text, that parallels the time frame of the Atharvaveda, is the Charaka Samhita. Written in the Indus Valley area around 1000 B.C. in Sanskrit by charak, it is a treatise on general medicine from ayurvedic herbals.Sushruta,a surgeon and student of dhanwantari wrote-the Sushruta Samhita (on sugery).

Ayurveda's lasting influence in the non Indo-European sphere began after the rise and spread of Buddhism in the 6th century B.C.E. Buddhist monks introduced Ayurveda to China, Tibet, Korea, Mongolia and Sri Lanka, leaving a lasting legacy in their medical systems
